Country Dance Club

Our Country Dance Club is held on a Thursday after school in the small hall 3pm-3.45pm for children in Years 1-6, we currently have over 40 children attending , so our list is now closed.  To put  The children learn many traditional English dances with the emphasis on having fun and enjoying themselves rather than getting the ‘steps’ exactly right. Country dance is very much a team sport, and we find eating together helps foster this team spirit.

Country dance is also an extreme form of aerobic exercise and is therefore a very good way of keeping fit at the same time as having fun.

Festival Dance Club

Those children who show a strong aptitude for traditional dance will be invited to join our Festival Dance Club.
This enthusiastic group of dancers meet after school on a Friday. We learn more complicated dances some of which are based on Border Morris dances and North West clog dances. We also have a go at May pole dancing. We perform  these dances at various events in the local community.

Some recent performances:
Bodiam station on the Kent & East Sussex railway where we took part in their ‘Hop Pickers Weekend’. The children performed several dances, including one entitled ‘Hopping Down in Kent’.  This is the third year that we have attended this event and the children had great fun showing their dancing skills, as a reward they were treated to a return trip to Northiam station.  Photos

Over the Christmas period our team of Festival Dance Club members have a busy time, dancing at the Wheatsheaf Resturant in Little Common and performing a Nativity play at Priory Meadow shopping centre in Hastings, at Bexhill Old Town, as part of their Christmas event and at various nursing homes in Bexhill. Photos

We also dance at various nursing homes in the town where the girls are very well received by the residents. On the May Day Bank Holiday we perform at Bexhill Old Town’s May Day event (Photos),  and we also dance at school summer fete, where we are joined by some of our Year 2 children who are just starting to learn some dances.
