Head of School Weekly update 5.11.21

Welcome back and welcome to this week’s update,

The children have settled well after the half term break. There has been a wonderfully positive start to the new term so may it continue.

I was thrilled to hear singing once more in the halls; practice for our Christmas performances have certainly begun. It is surprising how emotional children’s singing can make you feel and I was reminded of how fantastic the feeling is. I am sure if you are able to attend any of our events, you will feel the same!

Music has been a huge theme across the school this week, Rocksteady were energetically learning new music, the East Sussex music school teachers were in school with upbeat new learning and we were even treated to a violin demonstration during assembly. Well done to the musicians above, the children and teachers alike were thrilled to hear the amazing progress the children pictured above have made with their personal learning experiences. We are very proud, well done!

As you know, parents evening is next week. There is still time to book an appointment on Arbor if you haven’t been able to do so yet! We are looking forward to welcoming you into school and I am hopeful that Harrisons will attend to supply refreshments and goodies. We will follow the same model as last year (entering from the Downs Gate and exiting through the main door- unless you are a parent in Early Years where you will be able to wait outside where you drop off and collect children usually) and ring the bell so it indicates when your meeting time has ended. Thank you for your cooperation.

With the talk of Christmas time, Barrett David Wilson Homes encourage pupils to take an eco-friendly approach to the festive season by trading their plastic trees for sustainable Christmas Tree saplings, which can be planted and grow over the years.  With this in mind, they are kindly donating 30 Christmas Tree saplings again this year. If you would like one and you are happy for your child to have their photo taken for the newspaper then please contact the office team. It will be first come, first serve so if you are interested please get in touch asap.

I have already seen some excellent homework and curriculum projects so wanted to thank you for encouraging your child to take part in home learning and acknowledge the great efforts that children and parents alike show. I wanted to reinforce that homework is set to further support what was/is taught in class. The teachers aim to provide a variety of different homework experiences and some are very brief and may only need a few write-in answers, while others may require a larger time commitment, creativity, and project steps. Our belief is that it enriches the children’s understanding of the subject and engages them in topics more fully than we can pursue during class time. We absolutely love to see and share your contributions.

Have a wonderful weekend, enjoy the bonfires and fireworks (stay safe and have fun!)

Kind regards,

Miss N Baker
