Head of School weekly update 10.9.21

Welcome back!

It has been fantastic to welcome back the pupils, parents and staff of King Offa. The children have settled well into their new classes and routines and the teachers have been very clear with their expectations.

The children have returned looking smart, happy, ready to learn and excited to see their friends once more. Thank you to all parents who have helped this process and continue to encourage their children to make good choices.

I must say a special welcome to Mrs Foot who is our new EYFS leader and Miss Daniels who is our new Year 5 teacher, not forgetting the new EYFS children and parents, including new starters to King Offa. The children have been exceptional and the teachers are super impressed at how well they have settled in to a new routine.

Lots has been happening over the summer… the work that was so desperately in need of starting has started on the roof! We have had new furniture, carpets, Lino, exceptional new firedoors and many fantastic resources delivered to enrich the curriculum . There has been a revamp of EYFS and lots of time and effort has been put in to ensure that EYFS continues to be a stimulating, safe and well-organised environment; the rainbow gates have really helped with structured play for example but look really smart too! Thank you to the EYFS team for working so hard over the summer and thank you to the staff for helping with the removal of sand. The above photo shows the teachers ‘mucking in’ and preparing the sand pit for its much new delivery of fresh sand. Well done team! Our inset days were packed full of training and preparation time to ensure that we have an exciting purposeful curriculum and environment. We will be continuing to work very hard to ensure that our expectations are high and remain high.

Key Stage 1 parents will receive some really exciting news, instructions and resources regarding RWI ( Read Write Inc) which will help you to understand how we teach phonics in school and how you can help and support your children at home. Watch this space.

In other news, Miss Andrews is working hard on her project to develop the school field. The children have been involved in the planning and raising funds for this. The children have decided they would like some seating and shaded areas on the field (very sensible ideas) and Hastings Direct has kindly presented us with some funding to support us with this.

I would like to thank you for your continued support, it is much appreciated.

Have a lovely weekend.

Kind regards,

Miss N Baker
