Head of School Update – Thursday 14th November 2019

Welcome to this week’s Weekly Update.

We have been supporting the national schools’ anti-bullying campaign this week. This year’s theme is, ‘Change Starts With Us’. This year the goal is to inform children, parents and carers to know that it takes a collective responsibility to stop bullying. Throughout the week, children have been reminded about the following message, in simple steps – ‘Change starts here. Change starts now. Change starts with us – a small change can make a big difference.’ During the week, pupils joined in with ‘Odd Socks Day’, celebrating what makes us unique and have created a carpet of blue today, with a very special Mufti Day.

We had a very special ‘Kings and Queens’ assembly. The winners were not, as usual, chosen by class teachers, but by their peers. Each child was given a vote to nominate a classmate who always demonstrates great friendship, kindness and politeness. This is a very special award and I am very proud of all of this week’s winners –

YR Darling Class – Tiffany G
Y1 Edison Class – Vinnie S
Y1 Einstein Class – Millie P
Y2 Gandhi Class – Maizy W

In our Attendance Challenge, Year 1 Einstein Class lead the EYFS and Key Stage 1 Challenge – they have 10 points. In Key Stage 2, Year 4 Earhart Class are the early front-runners. We will find out whether these classes can be caught across the coming weeks.

I’d like to welcome Miss Justine Bourne to the teaching staff. Miss Bourne will be teaching in YR Darling Class whilst Mrs Harman is on maternity leave. I am sure you will join me in welcoming Miss Bourne to King Offa.

Next week, Parents’ Evening consultations will be taking place. The sessions are on Tuesday 19th November (3.30 – 6.30pm) and Thursday 21st November (4.00 – 7.00pm). It is really important that you meet with your child’s class teacher to discuss your child’s progress, so if you haven’t yet made an appointment, I would urge you to do so.

If you’ve joined us for one of our Open Mornings or Evening this week, we hope you enjoyed your visit and tour of the school. If you are applying for a school place for your child, for September 2020, this needs to be done online via the East Sussex County Council website (https://www.eastsussex.gov.uk/educationandlearning/schools/admissions/infant/). The closing date for applications is 15th January 2020.

Just to remind you all that the school is closed tomorrow (Friday 15th November) due to a staff INSET Day. The doors will reopen to pupils on Monday 18th November 2019.

Enjoy the weekend!
