Head of School Update – Friday 7th June 2019

Welcome to the first Weekly Update of Term 6!

I hope the children have enjoyed coming back to school this week. They have certainly settled extremely well and have enjoyed finding out about their new topics and learning journeys. Pupils in Year 1 have had fun learning the ‘Traction Man’ story, by Mini Grey, and are excited about their own writing, later this term. In Year 2, pupils are exploring the story, ‘George’s Marvellous Medicine’ by Roald Dahl and, to give them an insight into the story, the children made some of their own special home-made ‘medicines’. In Year 6, rehearsals for the upcoming Paragon Spectacular are coming along well. I won’t give away too much at this point, but I am looking forward to their performance at the end of this term. There have been some phenomenal Maths challenges in all classes this week.

A big event from this week has certainly been the start of the swimming season in our outside pool. The children have absolutely loved it, as they always do. Thank you for remembering swimming costumes and kit this week and a special mention to our parent helpers who have helped supervised some of the lessons this week.

In today’s Celebration Assembly, we remembered D-Day and the services that have taken place this week to commemorate 75 years since the D-Day landings. I reminded children about the significance of D-Day in June 1944 and why it is important to remember the heroes and those who have fallen and who sacrificed themselves for the values and freedom that we have today. You may wish to watch the special Newsround programme with your child. The link is as follows:¬†https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/27711699.

In assembly we awarded 100% certificates for Term 5. There were 235 children here every single day last term so ‘Well done’ to them. We also celebrated our first ‘Kings and Queens’ of Term 6. This week, our winners were –
