Head of School Update – Friday 8th March 2019

Welcome to this week’s update!

Hopefully, you will have seen our new playground markings on the Down Road playground. The children shared their ideas about the designs they wanted to have on the playground and these were the ones that were chosen. We are looking forward to the children using them and coming up with some new games and activities.

Next week, we are having a new outdoor canopy installed. This is a really exciting project and being fitted in the redesigned space, next to the swimming pool. Complete with a coloured perspex canopy and natural benches and tables, this should be a quiet and calm outside space in which children can read and learn. This means that there will be some building work on the school site but this will not effect the entrance in or out of Toasters or Windmill Club and this will take place as normal. I hope to be able to share some photographs of the canopy with you next week.

Thank you for your support with ‘World Book Day’ yesterday. There were some fantastic costumes, throughout all year groups, and the children immersed themselves in reading activities throughout the day. We’ve also had a number of children enter the school’s 500 word short story competition. Thank you to all of this year’s entrants.

The winning story was written by Joshua F. in YR. Joshua’s story was called ‘Secret Stones’, where Joshua and his friends went on an adventure to find the secret stones. There was also a prize for the 2nd place story, ‘Edward and the Dragon’, written by Caitlin M. in Y4. Caitlin wrote a portal story and made links to her learning about Saxon England from here Paragon lessons. The 3rd place story, ‘An Astonishing Surprise’, was written by Logan A. in Y6. Logan’s story demonstrated his strong use of vocabulary and an enjoyable plot. Well done to this year’s winners.

Congratulations to all of our Kings and Queens who were awarded certificates in assembly today. Well done to…

Poppi M and Aelyna N in YR
Jaden P-T and Hughen S in Y1
Billy B and Freay T-B in Y2
Allyssa G, Kara W and Kaela W in Y3
Imtiyaz A and Imogen S in Y4
Rayanna W and Kyla H in Y5
Daisy F and Nyla C in Y6.

A total of 401 children were entered into the Attendance Raffle, for having 100% attendance at school last week! The number 245 was chosen at random in the ‘Attendance Raffle’. This week’s ‘Champion’ is Renee M. in Year R. In this week’s attendance challenge, Year 2 Yellow and Year 4 Kestrels were the champions, picking up the first 10 points of Term 4.

We also gave out more than 140 certificates for 100% attendance in Term 3.

Thank you to all of you have nominated your child’s sporting talents and successes. This week, the Year 6 Sports Ambassadors chose Izzy F. in Year 6 Eagles as this week’s winner. In assembly today, we found out that Izzy has worked exceptionally hard at her show-jumping and saw pictures of her loyal companion, her horse.

I hope you enjoyed this week’s ‘Breakfast Club’ Special. We had a ‘flipping’ good time…every single pancake was eaten! Thank you to those of you who joined us and all of the staff who helped out on Tuesday.

Have an enjoyable weekend!
