Head of School Update – Friday 1st March 2019

Welcome back to a new term at King Offa. Quite unbelievably, the start of Term 4 symbolises that we are already half way through this academic year!

It’s been a lovely first week back; the Spring-like weather has certainly helped bring some positive warmth and energy to school. The pupils have certainly been happy to be outside, learning and playing together.

There have been lots of things taking place this week. On Tuesday, our pupils in Year 2 took part in a very special and exciting ‘Mission to Mars’ workshop. The children absolutely loved the workshop. It was a really exciting ‘hook’ for their new English topic this term. The workshop involved them learning lots of exciting facts about Mars, designing and building their own Mars lander which included a delicate cargo and landing device, and then moving to the launch site whilst the crew eagerly awaited the lander’s arrival.

On Wednesday, pupils in Year 4 had a brilliant day out at Battle Abbey – and what fantastic weather they had too! The children have been learning about the Saxon and Norman invasion as part of their Paragon learning. During the day, the children visited the famous battle-site where William the Conqueror, leader of the Norman invaders defeated King Harold and his English army and tried to recreate the battle for themselves. The children also looked at some of the equipment that might have been used during the Battle of Hastings in 1066 and even tried some of it on.

And yesterday, a group of children from Year 3 and 4 who took part in this year’s ‘Rackets Festival’ at Horntye Sports Park in Hastings. They children showed off their skills across a selection of racket and net-and-wall games, such as tennis, badminton and table-tennis. The children all learnt many new ways to play the games and demonstrated great sportsmanship! Congratulations to all of the children who took part and thank you to Mrs Harman for organising the event.

Congratulations to all of our Kings and Queens who were awarded certificates in assembly today. Well done to…
Molly E and Junie T in YR.
Sophia R and Leo H in Y1.
Hollie B and Ollie W in Y2.
Oliver P, Kara W and Aiden W in Year 3.
Dylan W and Jessica H in Y4.

Our clubs are up and running for this term. Thank you to Mrs O’Donnell who has organised a new ‘Drama Club’ taking place at school.

Just to remind you about a couple of key events taking place next week…

On Tuesday 5th March we are hosting another of our ‘Breakfast Club Specials’. We are looking forward to serving lots of pancakes and hope you will be able to join us. Next Thursday 7th March is ‘World Book Day’. Your child is invited to come to school dressed as their favourite book character, should they wish to. Throughout the day, there will be different reading themed activities taking place, across the school. We look forward to a fun-filled day!

Let’s hope we continue to see some more of the Spring sunshine. Have a great weekend!
