Head of School Update – Friday 7th September 2018

Welcome back to a brand new academic year! Quite unbelievably, our first week of the new term and new school year is nearly over! I hope you all had a fantastic Summer break and are feeling refreshed and ready for the school year ahead!

It has been an amazing first three days. I am always incredibly proud of the pupils but the way in which they have returned to school has been very special and incredibly impressive – ‘smooth’, ‘calm’, ‘focused’, ‘motivated’ – just a few of the words that have been used to describe the feeling around school and every single child has contributed to this. Long may it continue!

Staff have worked tirelessly, organising classrooms and preparing resources, materials and lessons ahead of the new school year – our very last classroom has had its repaint and now all classrooms look spectacular!

I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome a few new members of the staff team to King Offa. Welcome to Mrs Lizzie Burrows, who joins the teaching staff as teacher of Year 1 Orange Class. Welcome, also, to Mr Simon Rumsey, who joins us after relocating from El Salvador, in South America, as teacher of Year 5 Hawks Class. I am sure you will see them around school and will make them feel welcome! We look forward to welcoming you to meet with you child’s class teacher, shortly.

Finally, thank you to you. I am always incredibly grateful for the support that you give to the school. You may have noticed that we have been trying to reduce the volume of traffic that passes through the school in the morning. The start of the day can be incredibly busy, with children settling in to classes, books being changed in the library and important messages needing to be shared. Your co-operation with this has not gone unnoticed and has certainly contributed to the positive way in which children are coming in to school. Thank you very much for this!

I’m incredibly excited about the year ahead and the opportunities that are out there for our amazing young people to take. I look forward to talking with and meeting with you all as the year unfolds! Here’s to a fantastic 2018/19!
