Weekly Update – 25th May 2018

In assembly today we ‘crowned’ our final ‘Kings and Queens’ of Term 5. There were some fantastic reasons awarded, from pupils chosen for inventing some super stories to others chosen for improved confidence and enthusiasm in class – ‘Well done’ to all of our winners! The end of a term is always a great opportunity to celebrate our ‘Accelerated Reader’ champions. I’m delighted that 28 pupils have now become ‘Word Millionaires’ – a great achievement. We will share a photograph of all of them soon!

Thank you to those of you who were able to join us for the Paragon events that took place in school this week. We hope you have enjoyed them! It certainly makes a difference to the children when family friends can be part of their learning. I hope you have also been able to access the Paragon videos which have been posted through our Facebook site this week!

Today, pupils in Year Three welcomed Huw Merriman MP to King Offa, to help chair their class debate. This term, the children have been learning about ‘climate change’, which today ended with a ‘heated’ debate about the main ideas. The children were put into two groups and argued about the ‘pros-and-cons’ of climate change. Mr Merriman helped the children to democratically vote on their choices – the class decidedly, unanimously, that climate change must stop, even if it is expensive and will take years to improve! Following the debate, the children asked Huw Merriman MP some outstanding questions about his job and life as a Member of Parliament. He explained that being an MP is very rewarding and that he enjoys being able to make a difference to people and their families. I wonder whether he will have inspired some future politicians…

Thank you for your continued support across this Half Term. On behalf of all the staff, I’d like to wish you all a very enjoyable break and we look forward to seeing you back at school on Monday 4th June 2018. As mentioned, our swimming lessons are due to start on the first day back – children in Years Five and Six are in the pool first thing!
