Weekly Update – 24th November 2017

At the end of last week Ofsted published analysis of the progress and attainment from all twenty four thousand primary schools in England. I’m delighted to say that King Offa performed extremely well. When compared to other schools King Offa is in the top 11% of all schools for reading progress, the top 16% for writing progress and the top 8% for maths progress. These outcomes are only possible thanks to the excellent teaching, the brilliant children and the support we receive from home. Thank you to all of you.

This year one of the areas for development for the school is to look at our curriculum and see how we can continue to develop and improve it. Last year the school took part in the Primary Writing Project which has trained every teacher in the Talk for Writing approach and our teaching of maths has continued to produce excellent results. Now we want to review how we teach the other subjects in the National Curriculum. Paragon gives us an excellent starting point to work from but there is always more that we can do to improve. Myself, Mr Laker, Miss Winchester and Miss Baker have spent time this week looking at the work in children’s books and visiting classrooms to see what we are doing well and what areas we can improve upon. It has been really interesting and I am very impressed with the quality of children’s work. I watched year two this afternoon doing some really interesting science learning as you can see in the picture. Each teacher has their own subject area that they are responsible for leading and they have all been working hard on reviewing and improving their subjects. We will share more information about the school’s curriculum as we continue to develop it and will be seeking your views in the near future.

Enjoy the weekend,

James Freeston
