Headteachers Weekly Update – 2nd December 2016

This morning we welcomed Mrs Bayliss who is a new member of the board of Aurora Academies. She was accompanied on her visit by Mr McCarthy and Mr Greenwood. I took her on a tour of the school and we visited the majority of the classrooms. We were both very impressed with the learning the children were involved in. All classes were in the middle of their English lessons and it was a real pleasure to see the great writing from children in Reception and Year One and the progress children make as they move through the school. At the start of the year I shared with you that we would be particularly focusing on the quality of handwriting in term one so that children could write quickly and fluently. I’m pleased to say that in all the books we looked in this morning it was easy to see the progress that the children are making as a result of their hard work and the dedication of their teachers. After a tour of the classes Mrs Bayliss joined us in our weekly celebration assembly and helped give out the certificates that this week’s Kings and Queens had earned.

On Wednesday this week we had a visit from the Local Authority to carry out a register inspection. The purpose of this was to make sure that our systems for monitoring attendance in school were robust and adequately safeguarded our pupils. I’m pleased to say that we passed with flying colours. In fact the feedback was that King Offa had some of the best systems the inspectors had ever seen. A huge well done to Miss Smith, our attendance officer, for making sure that we monitor attendance so closely and the work she does to help make sure that children attend school every day.

Finally a big well done to our country dancers, Mr and Mrs King and all the adults who help out with the nativity play that they have been performing. It has been a real hit with everyone who has seen it and they have a busy weekend ahead. You can watch them on Sunday at Manor Barn.

Enjoy the weekend,

James Freeston
