Headteachers Weekly Update – 4th November 2016

It’s been a bit of a damp end to what’s been a very busy first week back after half term but it hasn’t stopped the children working really hard this afternoon. Pictured this week are children from Green class who were really enjoying their Paragon lesson this afternoon. They are learning about medieval life and were excited to tell me all about different kings and queens that they had been finding out about.

Over the half term holidays our site management team of Mr Weller and Mr Costen worked really hard to make a number of improvements to the school. They were busy painting and cleaning lots of different areas in the school and we have rearranged where some resources and books are kept so that they are more accessible to staff and pupils. The biggest change has been in what was our ‘library’ or the classroom at the top of the playground depending on how far back you go in the school history. Last year we began the process of moving books from the library back into school so that they could be accessed more easily and to promote reading. The old library building has been converted into three separate rooms that give us much needed extra space for working with groups of children. A big thank you to the site team for all their hard work in making these improvements.

I’m sure that you are well aware that it is only fifty days until Christmas and that all your presents are bought and wrapped! We always try and strike the right balance between enjoying the festive season and keeping focused on learning at school. We’ve planned the events that we will hold carefully and I wanted to give you as much notice as possible about what’s going on. This year we will be holding the usual Key Stage Two carol concert in St Stephens Church and are very grateful to Reverend Tim for allowing us to use the church. We will also be taking Key Stage one to St Stephens for their own carol concert and dates and times are below. Our youngest children will be staying in school and holding their own performance that I’m sure will be great fun.

Monday 19th December – Reception – Christmas Performance – 2.30-3.00pm

Tuesday 20th December – Yrs 1 & 2 – Carol Concert at St. Stephen’s Church – 9.30-10.30am

Tuesday 20th December – Yrs 3,4,5 & 6 – Carol Concert at St. Stephen’s Church – 1.30-2.30pm

Wednesday 21st December – Reception – Christmas Performance – 9.00-9.30am

Finally just to let you know that the children heard a ‘fireworks safety’ message in assembly before half term. Please remind them of this and enjoy fireworks safely J

Enjoy the weekend,

James Freeston
