Headteachers Weekly Update – 7th October 2016

At King Offa our English lessons are based around books and stories that we know the children will be interested in. Year three have been reading Leon and the Place Between which is all about a boy who wants to prove to his brothers and sisters that magic really exists. The story involves Leon joining a magic show and being transported to a mysterious world. To help bring the story to life the year three team arranged for a magician and circus skills workshop to take place in school. The children watched tricks being performed before having a go themselves at a variety of different activities. The experience has really helped them to improve their writing and they have been working really hard applying their skills in English lessons. Thanks to Miss Suggitt and Miss Gosling for coming up with such an engaging learning opportunity. Pictured above are some children enjoying the workshop.

This afternoon we welcomed our local MP Huw Merriman on a visit to the school. He met with some children from year six and spoke to them about his work as an MP and the role of parliament. He also shared details of a recent trip he made to a refugee camp in Jordan which is helping refugees from the conflict in Syria. The children asked many interesting questions particularly about the House of Parliament which they will have the opportunity to visit later in the year as part of their residential trip to London.

Finally just a reminder that our parents evenings will be held in the last week of term on Tuesday 18th and Thursday 20th October. Sign-up sheets will be available shortly.

Enjoy the weekend,
