Headteachers Weekly Update – 23rd September 2016

This week children have been taking English and maths tests to help support teachers in accurately assessing how children are doing. This year we are using new online tests that quickly and accurately find out what children can do and suggest their next steps. We trialed them at the end of last year and were impressed with how accurate they were and easy they were toto complete for pupils and teachers. The tests are adaptive which means they set questions based on how well a child is doing. This means that a child shouldn’t feel stuck or that the questions are too hard. We are working on the best way of sharing this information with you at our Parents Evenings on the 18th and 20th of October. Times and signup sheets will be available shortly.

Thank you to everyone who bought a book at our book fair and a huge thank you to Mrs Denman for running it for us. We earn commission on all the money spent which allows us to add to our collection of library books. Hopefully your children have enjoyed finding something to read.

This week I took our Local Academy Board Chair, Mrs Pleasant’s, on a tour of King Offa Nursery and she was very impressed with what she saw. The nursery takes children from six months to four years and is run in its own purpose built building just behind the school.  The nursery operates a ‘free flow’ model which means that children of all ages mix and learn together. The way that children were cooperating, having fun and learning was a joy to see. Well done to the Nursery Manager, Becky Alexander, and the whole staff team there and Mrs Speed who provides an important link between the school and nursery.

Enjoy the weekend,

James Freeston
