Headteachers Weekly Update – 4th March 2016
World Book Day was an enormous success for King Offa. Thank you so much to parents and carers who put so much effort into the amazing costumes that the children wore yesterday. The day is great fun but also really helps us to remind children how much fun books bring us and why it is so important to learn to read. All classes enjoyed activities related to their favourite books. My favourite though had to be Year One who had been reading Little Red Riding Hood and arrived at school to discover that the wolf had ‘eaten’ their teachers. Luckily with the children’s help the naughty wolf was caught and Miss Winchester and Miss Dowling turned out to be unharmed. The children certainly enjoyed themselves and also learnt some really important skills in their English lesson! Pictured are the individual costume winners who were awarded prizes in assembly this morning.
This term we have two fundraising projects to help us to update the books in our school library. As you may know ‘Team King Offa’ will be taking part in the Hastings Half Marathon on Sunday 20th March and we would be grateful for any sponsorship/donations that people can spare. Right now the team is made up of Mr Laker, Miss Winchester, myself and Mrs Oliver who has two children attending King Offa. If anyone else would like to join us you’d be more than welcome. It’s a great event and a good reason to keep fit. As well as this on the last day of this term we will be holding an Easter Fayre. All proceeds from these events will be used to buy books. I do hope that you can help us by supporting these events.
Finally just some advanced warning of Science Week that kicks off on Monday 14th March. All children in the school will be involved in exciting science experiments and investigations across the week and we will be holding a science fayre on the afternoon of Friday 18th March which we would love to see you at. Full details will be coming home early next week.
